Improved Scoring Mechanisms Complete

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

After two more hard weeks of building, Team 449 was able to complete not one, but two working scoring mechanims. One was a dumper, a project which had not been previously started. The catapult, which had not lived up to expectations at the D.C. Regional, was improved and recoded.

This past Saturday, the dumper and the catapult showed their capabilities by passing every test we threw at them. The dumper was able to carry and dump 6 balls, consistantly getting 3 in when the trailer was pinned. The catapult showed it could not only hit stationary targets within 7 feet, but match the speed of a trailer moving at constant velocity and predict shot locations. Everyone present at the meeting had a discussion about comparative values, culminating in a vote in which the catapult won the right to be on the robot.

On an unrelated note, version 4 of Team 449's scouting software ("Scout449") is now available for other teams.
