ROUS in the pits between matches.

On October 22nd 2016, the Blair Robot Project participated in the ILITE Robotics Off-Season Challenge (IROC) from 6:30 AM – 6:00 PM. Twenty-one veterans and five freshmen made the long drive to Virginia to support our team. ROUS went through some rough spots, with the ball intake and communications both failing multiple times. However, other teams provided us with materials, and our veterans and mentors were able to pull our team through qualification matches with our problem-solving skills and our incredible teamwork.

We emerged as the first pick for alliance number seven. Our alliance was led by the captain Hotbotz and included teams Titans and Sparky. Together, we beat alliance number two in the quarterfinals and alliance number six in the semi finals, placing second overall — the highest alliance finish of ROUS’ career! IROC also served as a practice run for our rookie drive team and introduced some dedicated freshmen to FRC-style competitions, preparing our team even further for the coming build season. The team agrees that IROC was a ton of fun, and we can’t wait to come back next year!
