Team 449 welcomes high-school students from Silver Spring, Maryland, and the surrounding area. No robotics, programming, engineering, or shop experience is required. New members learn from student leads, mentors, and hands-on projects.

What students can do: Students can contribute through mechanical design, CAD, fabrication, programming, electronics, strategy, scouting, media, outreach, writing, awards, fundraising, and event planning. Students do not need to know which subteam they want before joining.

How to join? We meet at Montgomery Blair High School. Come up to Room 361 on Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:30 to meet the team and get involved. Or email us at blair.robot@gmail.com with your name, grade, school, and areas of interest.

For parents and guardians: Team meetings are held at Montgomery Blair High School. At least one adult is present at every team meeting; this may be a teacher, mentor, or team parent. Students work under the guidance of student leaders and adult mentors. New members receive training before using tools or working on technical systems, and tool use is allowed only when a safety-trained adult is present. Families should expect the time commitment to increase during the winter build season and spring competition season.
